Top 5 Reasons You Are Building Muscle
Trying to build muscle but not having much luck? If so, you aren’t alone. A number of individuals start up on a weight lifting program only to find that results elude them. This can be a very frustrating process because despite spending hours in the gym, they just aren’t reaping the rewards.
Don’t you want to make your efforts in the gym pay off? Chances are you do – without a doubt, so that means you need to be making yourself aware of some of the mistakes that people commonly make.
Here are some to get you started.
Too Much Volume
One of the biggest mistakes people trying to build muscle make is adding far too much volume to their weight lifting program. They figure, the more exercises they can complete, the harder they destroy that muscle, the more tired they are after each workout, the faster they will see results.
Wrong.
The reason this is wrong is because when you completely annihilate your body with your workouts, it becomes too hard to recover in time for the next session. If you aren’t recovered, you aren’t building your muscle back up and getting stronger. So, rather than building muscle, you lose muscle.
Obviously not moving you closer to your goals.
Not Enough Food
The second problem that’s commonly seen among those who are trying to build muscle is that they just aren’t taking in enough total calories. Building muscle is an energy demanding activity and when you’re not eating enough, you simply maintain your body weight.
So, if it’s been a few weeks since you’ve seen that scale budget, try adding a bit more food to your plate. That should get things moving better (note that you can take this too far – if you add TOO much food, you’ll just gain fat weight).
Too Much Cardio
Then you have the fat phobes out there. They want to build muscle but if even an ounce of fat goes on their body, they are on a diet.
This is going to work against you because it’ll cause you to be so tentative with your calorie intake that it’ll take years to even gain a few pounds. You don’t need to go crazy overeating, but you do need to maintain a surplus.
So, this leads some people to start just adding extra cardio in instead. They’ll eat more – so their calories are taken care of, but then they’ll go and do an hour of cardio a day, thinking this will keep them from getting fat.
But, the fact of the matter is that calories in versus calories out is the equation to focus on. You have increased your calories in portion of the equation, but you’ve also upped your calories out portion. The result, balance – and lack of muscle building.
Don’t go adding hours and hours of cardio when trying to build muscle. You’ll just be spinning your wheels.
So, keep these three mistakes in mind. If you need help building muscle, Vince DelMonte’s program is a good one to look into.
