Top 5 Fat Loss Supplements

When walking into any health food supplement store, you’re going to see aisles lined with fat loss supplements, all promising fast results when you use them.  But, how can you be sure which ones really work and which are just going to suck money out of your pocket?

It can be quite difficult at times especially because of the fact that these companies are pouring millions of dollars into appealing advertising campaigns.

Here are the top 5 fat loss supplements you should concern yourself with. They may just surprise you.

Caffeine

Caffeine is an extremely good fat loss supplement for a couple of reasons.  First, caffeine is going to help boost your energy levels, allowing you to complete your workouts on days when you’d rather just not.  Secondly, studies have demonstrated that caffeine can enhance fat burning when taken before a workout by improving fat oxidation rates.

Whether you choose to take your caffeine in with a cup of coffee (not recommended for immediately before a workout) or you choose to take it in pill form, getting in 200mg or so before a workout is a good move – unless you’re caffeine sensitive that is.

Fish Oil

The next fat loss supplement you may want to think about using is fish oil. Fish oil is a source of fat and will contain calories, so obviously you don’t want to go crazy taking in large amounts, but it’s also a supplement that will improve your overall insulin sensitivity, so when you consume carbohydrates, your body utilizes them better as fuel and isn’t as likely to shuttle them off towards the fat cells.

On top of this, there is an unimagineable amount of research on the different health benefits of fish oil, so its’ something you really can’t afford to pass up. Aim for 3-6 grams per day for best results (usually there is one gram per capsule).

Protein Powder

Most people wouldn’t consider protein powder as a ‘fat loss supplement’, but it’s getting listed here as well.  Why?  Because one of the most critical things with any fat loss diet is making sure you are getting enough protein.  When you don’t, major problems will occur and you might find yourself losing muscle mass.

Since this would then slow your metabolic rate, you could start seeing a weight gain.  To prevent this, meet your protein needs.

Protein powder makes this easier (but to state on the record, in most cases whole food sources of protein will always be better).

Ephedrine

Many people have a very negative mindset regarding ephedrine, however it’s important to keep in mind that the vast majority of negative reports regarding its’ use were due to taking very large dosages.

When followed properly, adding ephedrine to your supplement protocol can be a great way to boost your metabolism, increase energy, and enhance overall fat burning.  Just start with a lower dose and see how you feel first.  Typically this supplement is also combined with caffeine, which tends to increase its effects.

A Good Multi-Vitamin

Finally, the last fat loss supplement to consider is a good multivitamin.  Since you will be eating fewer calories during a weight loss diet, you do stand a higher chance of running into nutrient deficiencies if you aren’t careful.  Having a good multi-vitamin for back-up support will prevent this.

So, keep these weight loss supplements in mind next time you feel like you’re fighting a battle in the supplement store.  There are far too many empty claims out there to get yourself too wrapped up in.  When you do, you typically begin focusing more on supplements and less on a proper diet, which is exactly backwards from what you want.
