Six Free Six Pack Ab Training Secrets
If you’re on a quest for six pack abs, the type of training you do on a day to day basis is going to have a large influence on your results. There are a very high number of different six pack ab training programs available today, but each will be unique in its’ own way.
Identifying the factors of a six pack ab training program that will get you the results you’re looking for the fastest will be key for ongoing results.
Here are 6, six pack ab training tips you should keep in mind at all times.
1. Weight Lifting Comes First
First things first – weight lifting. If you want to get six pack abs, weight lifting is a must. ‘Must’ meaning non-negotiable. Far too many people believe that cardio training is the fastest way to get a six pack and they pound away on the treadmill while never seeing results.
Weight training is what will boost your metabolism, help you build more muscle tissue, make you look more defined, and help change the entire shape of your body. Isn’t a full body make-over something you’re going for? If you need more proof that cardio is dead, see this post on ‘fat loss’ cardio.
2. Weighted Ab Work Typically Should Be Avoided
Next, I personally would choose to avoid weighted ab exercises unless your goal is to actually build larger abdominal muscles. The thing is that most people want lean, slim waists, they don’t want thick waists that are defined (although some men may prefer this look).
Either way, weighted ab exercises could cause the muscles to grow larger, which may not quite be something you’d prefer. Instead, focus on ab exercises where you’re contracting as many muscle fibers deep within the abdominal core as possible (such as the plank, for instance).
3. The Abdominal Muscles Should Always Be Engaged
Third, it’s important for you to remember that the ab muscles are actually always going to be slightly contracted. Whether you’re standing in line waiting to purchase your groceries, doing a yoga class, performing a heavy set of squats, or getting out of bed in the morning – the abs will be contracting.
This is due to the fact that they are responsible for maintaining the upright position of the body and virtually creating any movements that take place within the core of the body. Do a self check right now. How tense are your abs?
Start thinking of holding them tense more often (especially while doing your other weight lifting exercises) and the results will start to show. Most people hold their abs completely distended, which is part of the reason for that ‘pot belly’ look. Tense up! You’ll notice a difference immediately.
4. Do Not Exercise On An Empty Stomach
Here’s another huge mistake: Think exercising on an empty stomach is a really great way to torch that ab fat fast? You may want to reconsider.
Unless you’re doing very moderate intensity cardio (which isn’t all that effective in terms of six pack ab training anyway), you must fuel your body with glucose. This is what the muscles need to contract properly, so when it’s not present, your workouts are going to start hurting.
You’re far better off cutting calories in other areas of your day then removing them from before and after the workout. Just. Don’t. Do It.
5. Expect Day To Day Fluctuations In Your Six Pack Appearance
I see question after question after question on this issue. Someone is seeing fantastic results and the one day they wake up and it’s like their abs have just vanished – literally. They could see them the night before and now….well, they are nowhere to be found.
First off, breathe. Your abs don’t just disappear overnight. If this happens to you at any time, it’s likely water weight due to increased salt or carb intake. It’s virtually impossible to gain 2+ pounds over the course of a day (really, you’d have to be in a championship eating contest to accomplish this feat), so don’t get overly concerned.
Drink more water the next day, cut back on your carbs slightly if you’d like and within a day or two they should be back looking how they did before. Freaking out is going to do nothing but release cortisol in the body, which can actually promote ab fat storage.
Breathe.
6. Rely More On Your Diet Than Training To Get Six Pack Abs
Finally, the last six pack ab training tip that must be stated is that if you want to get six pack abs, you need to focus on your diet.
This is possibly the single biggest mistake I see. People put so much effort into their workout program then question why they aren’t getting results.
But, if you ask them what they are doing diet-wise, they’ll tell you that they don’t really watch too much – because they are exercising so much!
Wrong. No matter how much you exercise, you need to watch what you eat. A proper six pack abs diet program will be critical to seeing results. It cannot be said enough.
So, keep these tips in mind. The faster you can start using the correct principles that help you get results, the sooner you’ll end the cycle of frustration you’re currently in.
