Reader Question: Will Taking Growth Hormone Help Increase My Height?

Today’s question is one that I actually get quite frequently from readers who are a little less focused on their ability to build muscle and are more focused on growing taller.

It does seem to be the case that many men wish they were taller and are wondering if there is anything they can do about it.

What’s the truth with this matter?

Question:

I find that I’m doing okay with my ability to build muscle, but what I really wish I could do is increase my height.  I’ve been shorter than other males my age for as long as I can remember and now I’m 26 years old and am only 5′3″. I’d kill to even add a few inches to this. I’ve been wondering lately if maybe taking some growth hormone would help me out with this.  What are your thoughts?

Answer:

There are a wide variety of growth hormone products out on the market today that you can take to help increase the amount of muscle you’re able to build.  The issue with height though is a different situation due to the fact that while muscle is a tissue that is constantly changing and growing, your bones have what are called ‘growth plates’ that will fuse at a certain age once the growth process has taken place (typically this is later on once you reach the age of puberty).

So once those growth plates fuse shut, it’s going to be quite hard to actually increase the bone length specifically, which would cause a height increase.  Even though growth hormone is a substance that will work in the body to promote growth, as far as these supplements go and further height increases, results will be minimal.

Unfortunately once you’re in the adult years, really the only way you’d be able to see great increases in height gains will be to have surgery done where the bones are actually lengthened, which proves to be incredibly expensive, incredibly painful (in most cases), and incredibly long in duration.  Not quite what most people are going to be willing to do.

So, even though this is likely note the answer you were looking for, it’s important to realize.  I would suggest making the most out of your short height by focusing on building a nice solid amount of muscle.  Fortunately for you, shorter people do have an easier time appearing more muscular for the fact that there is less area that their muscles have to stretch over.
