Females, The Menstrual Cycle, and Fat Loss – What’s The Connection?

You don’t have to survey many females to find out that they feel they have it harder than males to lose body fat.  Females naturally have a higher requirement for body fat due to their need to be able to conceive a child, so their body is going to fight extra hard when they’re approaching the lower levels.

Females also tend to carry less muscle mass total compared with their male counterparts, further increasing the struggle they face.  They often have to consume fewer total calories and perform more cardio training to get their body fat moving.

Then you come to a whole other issue that females face – menstruation.  Most women know that cravings hit (some much harder than others) during a certain time of the month.  The mood starts to fluctuate, energy levels may plummet, it may feel as though you’re having pre-mature hot-flashes – just to name a few of the symptoms that some women go through.

But how does your menstrual cycle influence the fat loss you see?  There is in fact a connection to the ‘madness’ you seemingly experience, so understanding this connection can help put your mind at ease with regards to what’s going on with your body.
