Creating A Diet For Six Pack Abs

While there is plenty of information out there on how you can build a six pack workout, one thing many people overlook is making a diet for six pack abs.  When it comes to accomplishing this particular goal, I’d say that diet accounts for easily 80% of the results you see.

You can crunch your life away, but if you aren’t monitoring what you’re putting into your mouth, you’re going to be crunching forever.  In order to get clearly ripped abs, you have to remove the body fat that is currently resting over your abdominal region, and unfortunately for 90% of the population, exercise alone is not going to be enough to remove that body fat.

Here is what you need to know about creating a diet for six pack abs.

Up Your Protein Intake

The first thing – and possibly the most important thing you should be doing is increasing your protein intake.  When you’re aiming to get to very low body fat levels, you’re going to be at a much higher risk of losing muscle mass.  Since your muscle mass is what essentially ‘fuels your furnace’ in terms of metabolic rate, it’s vital that you’re doing whatever you can to maintain it.

At moderate levels of body fat one gram per pound should be enough, but as you verge being very lean and start using a very low calorie intake, I’d strongly recommend you boost your intake to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight each day.

Increase Vegetable Consumption

Next, you likely are going to want to start eating more vegetables.  If not for the good nutrition they provide, but because they are super low calorie.  If you want to feel full, eat vegetables.  Hunger is probably going to start rearing its ugly head at some point and vegetables will make it easier to deal with.

Find a way to prepare them that you can tolerate and get them down. Just note that you may want to up your intake slowly otherwise you’re going to become good friends with your washroom for the next week or so.

Cycle Your Carbohydrates

Finally, consider cycling your carbohydrates.  You don’t necessarily have to do a low carb diet to get six pack abs, but you’re likely going to find that reducing your carbohydrates somewhat does make things easier.

But, when you’re constantly on a very low carb diet, hunger will set in, you’re going to become extremely fatigued (due to muscle glycogen depletion – assuming you are also performing intense weight lifting as well – which I would recommend for your six pack workout), and you’ll likely eventually stall.

By implementing higher carb days in with lower carb days you  help prevent this and everyone’s happy (word of truth right there!).

A low carb diet mixed with high carb days is a great way to get on track with creating a diet for six pack abs.

So, if you want to successfully reach this goal, I’d highly recommend you start paying more attention to what you’re eating.  It is a necessity if you hope to obtain results.
